When I read in a Nigerian newspaper earlier in the month, that the under-20 football team coach, Musa Abdulahi fell ill I began to think about this topic. It was also impressive that later during the tournament, the first choice goalkeeper got injured and I saw the same principle at work. As I continued to check this interesting trend, I heard arsenal’s fantastic football star, Thierry Henri was leaving Arsenal, after been dubbed as the most successful player ever in Arsenal. I discovered he also had the same chance after Ian Wright reigned in Arsenal like a mighty colossus.
The coach had continued to search for a replacement when he bought Henri Thiery from Juventus on 3rd august 1999.the young looking lad, having being sat down on the bench to study the arsenal pattern for a while, on this fateful day he sat down again on the bench thinking if he could make Arsene Wenger proud, when the top striker was pulled out due to injury, I imagined coach Arsene Wenger called up to Henri, “Common Henri, it’s your turn”. Henri stood up, and ran to the pitch on this fateful match against Southampton and scored the only goal for arsenal that day, and from then on he didn’t stop, He went ahead to be the highest goal scorer in the history of Arsenal, claimed two Premiership titles and three FA Cups, the premiership’s most valuable player more than trice…but on the first day he was just called up to present what he had. When the onus lies on you, will you deliver? When your opportunity comes, will you be ready? The awesome truth is that everyone will have a fair share of opportunities, when the U-20 coach fell ill; the opportunity came for the assistant to prove he had the stuff. When the 1st choice goal keeper for Nigeria got injured; it was an opportunity for the 2nd choice keeper to have a shot at fame. In the midst of a string of failures, Abraham Lincoln said,” I will prepare and wait, for my opportunity will come”. When the opportunity eventually came, he went ahead to become one of
America’s greatest presidents. Many people are too apprehensive of leaving their present position and predicament that they have forgotten the need to prepare for what to do when the opportunity arises.
When the opportunity came for biblical Joseph, all he needed to do was to take his bath and shave, and then he was ready. What will you rush to do when your season comes? All David needed to when his opportunity came was just to repeat the same things he did when he killed the bear and the lion-he had already practiced.
The question for meditation this day is when your time comes ( for it will),will you be ready?
