6 steps to giving life to your brand’s Facebook fan page in 2011

February 14, 2011deolaUncategorized1 comment

Just as a newspaper advert is not a media relations programme, creating a Facebook fan page is not a social media strategy. Social Media strategy goes beyond Facebook, though I think Faceboook may last for a long time; hype may aso shift away from it like is is happening to Myspace and FriendFinder. Most brands have opened fan pages with the financial institutions leading the pack. Except for a very few most social fan pages are quiet, empty and growing cobwebs (lol) – really opening a fan page is the beginning of your social media engagement. If you business is not on Facebook /Twitter yet? As Facebook population hits 2.8 million and its taking over Google as Nigeria’s most visited site, you may be ignoring a large population of your buying publics.

The aim of the fan page is not to drive the ‘like’ button or drive traffic to your website – that is still the same sell and broadcast approach. The aim is simply to develop a relationship with your target audience. The trick is to launch campaigns, constantly engaging Facebook fans and users with innovative campaigns, pushing new content exclusive offers and information they can’t get elsewhere. The best way to grow your community is to consistently offer them quality content.
