video blogging in NigeriaUsing Videos for Content marketing is becoming big business. Even with the limitations of bandwidth, there’s a lot of love for video content online. People love to watch and share videos they find remarkable – fun, educative or controversial. While people generally share videos on Blogs, Facebook and Twitter. Social media websites not only allows you to share your thoughts, it also permits everyone to be their own online TV station.

For people who want to contribute to the social media space and are weary of the endless hours of typing blog posts, balancing between social networking sites, guest blogging and posting on your site, video blogging has become the real deal. Video blogs ( also called vlog or v-logs) are websites or online platforms dedicated to using video as its primary source of content. Most of these also use video sharing sites such as Youtube, Hulu, Ustream, Daily motion and Vimeo to host or store its video content.

While video blogging is still evolving especially in developing economies, some people and organisations are already taking advantage of it. Ever since Dbanj’s Oliver Twist campaign proved people will choose quality content over their bandwidth concerns, Nigerians have embraced the consumption of media content on social media and online platforms dedicated to video content has continued to rise.
Armed with a good camera and minimal editing skills everyone can take a shot at it. Here are the top nigerian vlogs you should be checking out.

1. Iroko TV:

Iroko is dubbed the king of African trees and this one is definately king of online distribution portal for African movies. This website is owned by Iroko Partners and offers the world access to African and mostly Nigerian movies. Iroko TV is certainly blazing the trail and founded by Nigerian born Jason Njoku. Think of any genre of movie and you will find it there.

Nollywood Love was the Jason’s first love and was where IrokoTV found its roots. While this was hosted on YouTube, IrokoTV is in charge of its own content and hosting.

2. Channels TV:

Definatly redefining the business of broadcasting in the digital age, they have done enough to be the king of vlogging. Evolving from being the traditional broadcast TV Channel, channels television is doing a lot to redefine the business of broadcast journalism in Nigeria. From their news website to Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and smartphone apps, Channels TV has turned its original video content into digital text and videos for today’s digital audience. Many of the viral videos that shook the Nigerian video space namely the oga at the top and former President Obasanjo’s Gangnam dancing were from the guys at Channels TV

3. Ndani TV – http://ndani.tv/blog/

How does a bank rock video blogging? GTBank will teach you how. NdaniTV is a product from the guys at GTBank‘s Corporate Communications team. NdaniTV takes GTBanks passion for arts and entertainment and turned it into an online magazine and vlog. It has featured the likes of Tuface, Dbanj,Whizkid, Jumia and Paga founders.

5. Ay live

Naija’s most enterprising commedian is at it again. Apart from organising shows and a TV programme, the entertainer regularly releases commedy skits which has become a regular feature on so many other people’s websites. Did you see his stuff on Kim Kardashian’s visit to Nigeria?

6. Naija runs girl

Popular among Nigerians in Yankee and Jand, this lady get’s you laughing.
Highlighting the attitude and charasteristics of a single Nigerian hot chick, she regularly releases episodes that ensures we are looking out for the next one.

7. What’s up Africa

Popular among Nigerians in Europe, Ike Azuike’s show presents African news and events in a funny and memorable way. I must warn you, he can be controversial but I guarantee you won’t forget his creative works!

8. Basketmouth

So where has the King of African commedy been? Basketmouth’s YouTube page comes alive when he features skits with other people, the big friday show and other comedy appearances he does.

9. TV nolly

Another YouTube account trying to beatNollywoodLove and IrokoTV at its own game.
It our bandwidth allows it, you can watch complete movies on these sites and they are making cool money with Google Adsense for videos

10. Naijaboyz

Ever heard of them? they were the poster boys for great video parodies about 5/6 years ago. Here’s what they do – they pick a great popular musical videos and develop an African parody for it, upload it on YouTube and they get us laughing as they appear and mix great musical videos for our enjoyment.

11. Battabox TV

Becoming a community of user-generated videos, Battaox has Funmi Iyanda written all over it – unconventiional, eclectic and remarkable.

Content marketing using videos is becoming a great darling for buinesses and brands especially and it will be exciting to see what trends and opportunities come up in the months ahead.
