7 things your customers won’t tell you (and social media will)

December 29, 2010deolaUncategorized3 comments

All branding and marketing activities are directed towards the customer/consumer. In the process of building our brands and products, complaints, solutions and comments offered by this ultimate focus of our business activities (customer/consumer) can provide fundamental insights for growing our business and dealing with customer care. If you sit in your posh office engaging ad agencies, the measurement of your ROI may not be that easy. Except through highly expensive and extensive research there are 7 things you will never discover from your customer without asking them.

1. They won’t tell you how best to reach them
2. They won’t tell you why they enjoy being your customer
3. They won’t tell you what influences their buying decisions
4. They won’t tell you what else they wish your business did
5. They won’t tell you who else likes to do business with you
6. They won’t talk to a machine when they are angry with you (0700 – ANGER)
7. They won’t offer advice on how best you can keep them for life

But these customers are already talking. Actually, they have CHANGED. The individual habits and expectations of modern consumers have changed the landscape into which marketing and advertising campaigns are launched. What held true in the “golden age of advertising” no longer holds true in the dawn of the “golden age of the individual.” Individuals are forming communities and conversations are going on about anything –including brands.
Social Media Engagement will ensure your brand gets noticed; measurement of your ROI is easier and will also allow your brand to go join the conversation. Consider the following;
‡ 43.9 million Nigerians now have access to the internet. This means Nigerians account for 40% of all internet traffic coming out of Africa. This population is 4 Million less the entire population of South Africa.
It is the combined internet population of Egypt, South Africa, Morocco and Kenya combined.
‡ The top three websites visited by Nigerians include; Google, Yahoo and Facebook. Shouldn’t you be where your customers are spending their time?
‡ Facebook alone, as a social media network has about 500 million members globally, and 2 million of them are Nigerians
‡ It is no more time for business owners to approach marketing by throwing ‘more money to broadcast and publish to their audience.
‡ More people read Nigerian newspapers online than hard copies

It time to get connect and don’t let customers leave you behind. It is time to join the conversation.

An exciting blog post, I just shared this onto a fellow coworker who was doing a little investigation on this. And he in fact bought me a drink because I found it for him, so gracias. 🙂 So let me rephrase that: Thanks for the treat! But yeah, Thanks for spending the time to share about this, would love seeing more on this topic. If possible, as you gain expertise, would you mind updating your blog with more info? It is extremely helpful for me. Giant thumb up for this share!
